Imprisoned for five years and six months; went under ground for four and half years

Was member of Communist Party General Council

One among the 32 comrades who left the CPI National Council in 1964 to form the CPI(M).

Secretary of the Kerala State Committee between 1980 and 1992

Member of the Polit Bureau since 1985

Elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967, 1970, 1991 and 2001

Leader of Opposition from 1992 to 1996 and from 2001 till date

Married. Two children
